| Matthew's cruel,
savage, and untimely death was the result of his being himself for all
the world to see. Those who killed him did so because they couldn't stand
that part of Matthew that was within them, as it is within us all. Where
he had courage, they had doubt and paranoia; where he walked tall despite
his diminutive stature, they crawled on their bellies; where he radiated
love, they radiated hate; where he was content to project his true self,
they were content to project their twisted personas; where he embraced
the light of truth, they embraced the darkness of bias based on ignorance.
Matthew's murderers were once babes in their mothers' arms. For whatever reasons, their innocent minds were ultimately poisoned by misinformation and prejudice. From the innocence of their cradles, their path was to lead to murder of the most despicable and cowardly kind. Matthew has unwittingly become a martyr for the noble cause of tolerance. No doubt, he will forgive his slayers in Heaven "for they know not what they do". Let us pray that the part of Matthew which is in all our hearts and minds never dies. Let us blind our critics with the light that Matthew has left us as his legacy. Mr B and Daniel
